ANNOUNCEMENT

International Cosmic Ray Workshop «TIEN-SHAN 2006» (ICRW «TIEN—SHAN 2006»)

BULLETIN NO. 1

This is the first announcement of the International Cosmic Ray Workshop «TIEN—SHAN 2006» to be hold from August 25 to August 27, 2006 in Almaty city, Republic of Kazakhstan.

The ICRW “TIEN-SHAN 2006” was offered last August during the 29-th ICRC in Pune, and supported by scientists of 8 countries.

The main goal of the Workshop is a wide discussion of new experimental projects on cosmic ray researches at mountain altitudes bearing in mind the present problems of high energy cosmic ray physics.

Possible topics of the Workshop could be:
a) At the energy spectrum “knee”;
b) Hadrons in EAS cores;
c) Exotic phenomena in EAS’s at E > 1016 eV;
d) Cosmic rays and the weather in Space and on the Earth;
e) Cosmic ray studies and LHC;
f) Miscellonea.

The participants of the Workshop will have an opportunity to see experimental facilities of the Tien-Shan mountain Station (COSMOSTATION) and learn details of many experiments which are running and planning there. Tien-Shan station allocates at 3340 m above sea level at distance of 40 km from the big city Almaty. It operates since 1961and studies different aspects of high energy cosmic rays. High mountain laboratories have the big advantages (in comparison with sea level labs) in investigation of Extensive Air Showers (EAS) and high energy hadrons.

The Workshop is sponsored by the Russian Ministry of Education and Sciences, «Center for Astrophysical Researches» (CAR, Republic of Kazakhstan), «Institute of Ionosphere of CAR» and Russian Foundation for Basic Researches. It is hosted by the «Tien-Shan Mountain Station» (the branch of P.N.Lebedev Physical Institute) , «Center for Astrophysical Researches» and «Institute of Ionosphere of CAR» at Almaty.

PROGRAM

Our aim is to bring together researchers having in common an interest in high mountain experiments on cosmic rays and astrophysics.

The workshop will be organized as a series of plenary half-day sessions. One day will be devoted for visiting Tien-Shan mountain station where the joint Russian-Kazakhstan researches of cosmic rays are performed. A preliminary program will be announced in bulletin no. 2.

ATTENDANCE AND REGISTRATION

Those interested in participating should register no later than May 1, 2006.

CONTRIBUTIONS

Contributions can be either talks or posters.
Approximately half of the time will be devoted to invited reviews on important topics. Additional contributions will be included on a time-available basis. The average allocated time for presentations is expected to be 20 minutes + 5 minutes discussion. The final decision will be made by the organizers with the help of the Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee and the organizers will notify authors in due time about acceptance of their contributions. Contributors to the workshop (talks and posters as well) are requested to submit a brief abstract (preferably WORD format via e-mail), 120 words or 15 lines maximum length, not later than May 1, 2006.

CONFERENCE FEE

The workshop fee is 200 Euro, and will cover the cost of the set a participant, coffee breaks, reception and transportation to the mountain station. Students and young people are encouraged to attend with a discounted conference fee of 100 Euro. Registrations will be also accepted after May 31, 2006, but for a fee of 250 Euro.

UNFORTUNATELY WAIVING OF THE CONFERENCE FEE IS NOT POSSIBLE.
